Chapter 27 - Bigotry Olympics
Okay, thought John. That happened. In all fairness Jac was being a sexist prick but rather than de-escalate the situation Reg, the crazy bastard, decided to match Jacâs sexism with racism and then raise him with homophobia like the world's weirdest poker game.
Or did he? Jac is paler than me and Reg looks like he should sleep in a wrinkly coffin, nearly as bad as Greg on the âpossibly-undead-pallid skin toneâ scale... Is it racist when two white guys donât like the group they each come from? Is it racist when a Cockney hates Brummies? Or a Scouser has an aversion to Geordies? Intra-racism vs inter-racism, which is worse? I honestly donât know but both are probably pretty bad. Ok⦠so maybe racist? Definitely homophobic.
Or was it? Jac has a kid and the travellers arenât too welcoming to âalternative lifestylesâ from what I hear so he most likely isnât gay⦠Maybe Reg doesnât have a problem with gay people, he was just talking shit to push Jacâs buttons, Jac probably really doesnât like gay people and so he is the real homophobe hereâ¦
Right⦠to recap: Jac was definitely sexist, we know that for sure, and he's possibly homophobic but we havenât confirmed that yet. Reg is perhaps a racist to certain groups of white people and possibly homophobic. How does this all balance out on the totem pole of bigotry? You see right now I wish Reddit was avail- OH SHIT!
Johnâs rumination on the intersectional nature of the Jac vs Reg bigotry Olympics had completely distracted him from the real world but it was cut off as he suddenly realised a fist was approaching his face at what seemed to be a sizable fraction of the speed of light. He instinctively raised his right arm to block before remembering he had left it on the side of the path half a mile away. Should probably go bag it up at some point, otherwise it will encourage rats, was his last thought before the anticipated pain.
Which didnât arrive, much to his surprise. One moment he was about to have his lights punched out having tried to block with his stump instead of, you know, teleporting out of the way or blipping the guys arm off like a sensible person. The next moment the man swinging at him was crouched down behind Jac, face planted in Jacâs left buttock and his right arm poking out between Jacâs legs. This juvenile still life could not continue for long due to the momentum of the punch thrower. John belatedly identified him as a level four with the ability Boxing Prodigy before the man's momentum caused his punching arm to sweep Jacâs left leg out from beneath him and dumped them both into a tangled pile on the ground.
John looked to Katie who winked at him. He nodded, genuinely grateful for being able to keep his teeth. As this was the second time she had spared him a painful impact to the head, he figured he should probably steal her something nice to say thank you.
